Salon Focus: Mr. C’s Barber Shop
Mister C’s Barbershop has been specializing in men’s and women’s hair since 1978. Mister C’s is located at 5839 Market Street, right across from the Shiloh Temple church. The closeness of the locations made it simple for Pastor Clarence Oats to manage the church and barbershop simultaneously for many years. As time moved on, Pastor Oats looked to barber Steven Gray to take over and manage Mister C’s. Steven has been a member of Shiloh Temple since he was a youth in the surrounding community.
Steven worked in a few other shops during his early career as a barber and was approached by the Pastor several times before committing to take over management of the shop. Now he continues to grow the shop alongside his partner Russell Lowe. “I had to work for others to realize what a blessing it would be to be in business for myself and thanks to Pastor Oats, I was given that opportunity. Now, my wife Candace and I would like to give back.”
Russell, the “Gentleman’s Barber”, has been passionately cutting hair professionally since 2007, when he received his barbering license from ABC Barber School in San Diego. He prides himself on the amount of detail presented in every cut, and does his best to give every client the level of precision and service that keeps them coming back for years. Lowe has been featured in Passion Barber Magazine and his reputation has grown throughout the San Diego community because of his specialization in Bigen dye, design work, razor lining, flawless fades, and other barbering skills in cutting any hair texture. Russell believes it is important to empower others with knowledge and lives by the slogan “My mind creates the artistry and my hands affect change.”

April 30, 2014It was such a pleasure to meet these two young men. I’m so grateful for their participation in the Healthy Diva Beauty Salon Project. They are helping to educate our community on the importance of making half your plate fruits and vegetables and enjoying physical activity every day for better health!
